Mujahid: UN lost its independence and effectiveness

DID Press: Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban’s caretaker government, took a strong stance in response to the UN’s continued opposition to the transfer of Afghanistan’s seat to the group, accusing the international body of bias and inaction.

Mujahid told a local media outlet that the UN no longer had “true effectiveness and independence” and is influenced by Western policies.  “The person sitting in this chair has no internal legitimacy and is not a true representative of the Afghanistan people,” he said, criticizing the current Afghanistan representative to the United Nations.

The Taliban have repeatedly sought to take over Afghanistan’s seat at the UN since returning to power, but the UN Credentials Committee has rejected the request and the former government’s representative remains in an official position
