92% of Afghanistan People Support Girls’ Education
DID Press: A recent UN survey reveals that an overwhelming majority of Afghanistan – both men and women across urban and rural areas – strongly support education for girls.

According to UN Women, findings from a nationwide survey show that 92% of respondents endorse education for women and girls.
The survey, conducted through house-to-house interviews, reflects the views of 2,190 Afghanistan citizens from various regions of the country.
The report highlights that 87% of men and 95% of women in rural areas support girls’ education, while in urban areas, support rises to 95% among both men and women.
“These figures show that girls’ education is not merely an urban demand, but a national aspiration across Afghanistan,” reads the report.
“Almost always, the first thing girls tell us is that they are eager to learn and only want the opportunity to go to school,” said Susan Ferguson, UN Women’s Special Representative in Afghanistan.
She added that Afghanistani families also support their daughters’ dreams of education, recognizing that learning can transform their future in a country where nearly half the population lives in poverty.
