Sixth Mustafa Prize Awarded to 3 Leading Scientists in Medicine, Technology, and Energy

DID Press: Sixth edition of Mustafa Prize, which honors outstanding achievements in science and technology by scholars from the Islamic world, has recognized three distinguished researchers from Turkey, Iran, and India. Their groundbreaking work in clinical medicine, advanced algorithms, and solar energy has earned them international acclaim.

This biennial prize, regarded as one of the most prestigious scientific honors in the Muslim world, this year celebrated scientists whose innovations have brought transformative advances in their respective fields.

The first laureate, Professor Mehmet Toner, a Turkish-born scientist based in the United States and professor at Harvard University, is a global pioneer in the application of nano- and micro-technologies in clinical medicine. His key achievement is the design of a microfluidic chip capable of detecting circulating tumor cells in the body, a breakthrough in early cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The second laureate, Professor Vahab Mirrokni, an Iranian computer scientist born in 1979 and a graduate of Sharif University of Technology and MIT, has gained international recognition for his work in algorithms and computer science. He developed innovative approaches such as locality-sensitive hashing and large-scale graph algorithms, offering new solutions for big data processing and analysis.

The third laureate, Professor Mohammad Khaja Nazeeruddin, an Indian scientist based in Switzerland and professor at EPFL, has made pioneering contributions to perovskite solar cells. His research resolved technical limitations of earlier generations of solar technology, paving the way for efficient and affordable solar cells suitable for deployment in remote and underserved areas.

Named after the renowned Muslim scholar Khawaja Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, the Mustafa Prize has become a symbol of the integration of science, innovation, and service to humanity.
