DID Press: US Congress approved a major defense spending bill allocating $400 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2026, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to Kyiv amid its ongoing war with Russia.

The House of Representatives passed $900 billion annual defense budget by a vote of 231 to 196. Of that total, $400 billion will be channeled to Ukraine through Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which requires Pentagon to procure needed equipment via contracts with defense manufacturers rather than drawing directly from existing U.S. stockpiles.
Lawmakers also added a provision obliging the administration to notify congress in advance should it decide to suspend or cancel the aid package.
The bill now moves to the Senate and a joint conference committee for final review before being sent to President Donald Trump for signature.
