UN: Afghanistan Women Need Help More than Ever
DID Press: Afghanistan women are in urgent need of greater international support amid the country’s deepening social and economic crises following the Taliban’s return to power, warned UN.

In its latest report, the UN said that women in Afghanistan “need humanitarian aid and international assistance more than ever before.”
The warning was issued by Sima Bahous, UN Deputy Secretary-General, who urged the global community to take immediate action to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan.
“Afghanistan women, who have faced severe and unprecedented restrictions since the Taliban’s return to power — particularly in education, employment, and access to social services — are living in a highly fragile and critical situation,” Bahous said. “They urgently need support to prevent further collapse in every aspect of their lives.”
Since the Taliban regained control, Afghanistan women have been stripped of many of their most basic rights.
Girls have been banned from attending secondary schools and universities, women have been barred from working in both governmental and non-governmental institutions, and their access to healthcare and social services has been severely curtailed.
UN also warned that these restrictions can have irreversible consequences for Afghanistan’s future.
According to reports, lack of access to education and employment opportunities for half of the population may further weaken Afghanistan society and hinder the country’s economic development.
