TTP Killed 11 Soldiers in Attack on Army Post in Northwest Pakistan

DID Press: At least 11 Pakistani soldiers were killed early Wednesday when militants linked to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) launched a coordinated assault on an army post in the country’s northwestern Kurram district, security officials said.

The attackers stormed the base from multiple directions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, triggering heavy fighting that also wounded several soldiers, officials added. Local media reported that a senior officer and a field commander were among the dead.

Security forces later launched a clearance operation in the area, killing several of the assailants, according to officials.

TTP, an Islamist militant group seeking to overthrow Pakistan’s government, has recently intensified its attacks, mostly targeting military and police installations.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers of providing safe haven to TTP fighters – a charge Kabul denies.
