UN Urges Afghanistan and Pakistan to Ease Tensions Through Dialogue

DID Press: United Nations expressed concern over rising tensions along Afghanistan-Pakistan border, calling on both sides to exercise restraint and resolve their disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, warned during a press briefing on Tuesday that escalating clashes between the two neighbors could endanger regional stability and civilian lives.

“We are closely and with concern monitoring the situation between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” Haq said. “The UN believes that the path to resolving disputes lies in dialogue and diplomacy—not in conflict.”

He urged authorities in both countries to avoid provocative actions and take concrete steps toward building mutual trust.

Weeks of cross-border clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces, drawing international concern.

The UN reiterated that peaceful political engagement remains the only sustainable solution to managing such tensions and preventing further instability in the region.
