UN: Over 4M Afghans Returned Home in Past Two Years
DID Press: A new UN report shows that the return of Afghan nationals has accelerated in 2025, with millions returning to Afghanistan in a short period of time.

According to the UN’s latest migration assessment, more than two million Afghans have returned to the country in 2025 alone, bringing the total number of returnees over the past two years to over four million.
The UN warned that the large-scale return of migrants has created serious challenges in areas such as housing, employment, and access to basic services, stressing the need for urgent international support.
The organization reiterated that returns must be safe, voluntary, and sustainable, and called for enhanced humanitarian cooperation to effectively manage the growing influx of returnees.
