WHO Warns of Rising Pneumonia Cases in Afghanistan
DID Press: World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a significant increase in pneumonia cases in Afghanistan as winter sets in, raising concerns over the country’s fragile health system.

In its latest monthly report, WHO stated that cases of acute respiratory infections (ARI), including pneumonia, rose by more than 24 percent in November compared to the previous month.
According to disease surveillance data, 147,138 ARI cases were recorded during this period, resulting in at least 248 deaths. This marks a sharp rise from 118,090 cases reported in October.
Health experts attribute the surge to cold weather, weaknesses in the healthcare system, and limited access to medical services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
WHO emphasized the urgent need to strengthen healthcare services, improve early diagnosis, and ensure timely access to treatment in order to prevent further loss of life.
