UN: 3-Quarters of Afghanistan’s Workforce Unemployed
DID Press: A recent UN report highlights the deepening economic crisis in Afghanistan, marked by unprecedented unemployment and sharply reduced household incomes.

According to the report, unemployment in Afghanistan has reached around 75 percent, while the country’s GDP fell by approximately 6.5 percent in the first half of 2025.
The report also indicates that the average monthly income for Afghanistan citizens has dropped to about $100, reflecting a severe decline in purchasing power and rising poverty nationwide.
More than 70 percent of Afghanistan’s population now relies on humanitarian aid for basic needs, yet the volume of such assistance has declined in recent months, placing additional economic strain on households.
