UN: Over 3M Children in Afghanistan Suffering Acute Malnutrition

DID Press: World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the nutrition situation in Afghanistan is dire, with over 3.5 million children under the age of five suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

This figure represents an increase of approximately half a million children compared to last year, placing Afghanistan among the countries experiencing the most severe food crises globally.

In addition to children, around 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women are also facing acute food shortages and require urgent treatment and assistance.

Economic instability, reduced humanitarian aid, and limited access to food resources have further exacerbated conditions for vulnerable populations.

Recent reports indicate that the food and nutrition crisis is particularly acute this winter, putting millions of people—including women, children, and low-income families—at heightened risk across the country.
