UN Halts Food Aid; 20M Afghans Face Hunger Crisis
DID Press: For the first time, UN announced it will suspend the delivery of food assistance to Afghanistan.

Tom Fletcher, UN Humanitarian Chief, said due to severe budget cuts, no food aid will be distributed to the country this upcoming winter.
Reports indicate that Afghanistan, ranked as the world’s second-most in need, is facing a sharp decline in international support.
During the early years following the Taliban’s return to power, humanitarian aid reached around 17 million people annually; this year, that number has dropped to roughly one million.
The UN warned that if this trend continues, nearly half of Afghanistan’s population could face severe food insecurity.
