Afghanistan, UN Stress Expanded Cooperation and Economic Stability

DID Press: Taliban’s acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani met with Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, to discuss strengthening engagement between Afghanistan and the international community, cooperation in combating narcotics, enhancing economic stability, lifting restrictions on the private sector, and improving the effectiveness of humanitarian assistance.

According to the Interior Ministry, both sides emphasized the importance of constructive engagement between the Taliban-led government and the international community, and the expansion of cooperation based on Afghanistan’s current realities.

Haqqani pointed to what he described as concrete and effective measures taken to prevent the cultivation, production, and trafficking of narcotics, calling the efforts successful and results-oriented.

DiCarlo welcomed improvements in the security situation and progress in counter-narcotics efforts, reaffirming the UN’s commitment to continued engagement and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

She also noted that, under the third phase of the Doha talks, newly formed working groups will hold their next meeting in Kabul, hosted by Afghanistan.
