Afghanistan–Uzbekistan Trade Sees Unprecedented Surge, Up 45% in 2025
DID Press: New figures released by Uzbekistan’s National Statistics Committee show a sharp rise in economic exchanges between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in 2025, with total trade reaching approximately $1.6 billion—an increase of 45.5 percent compared to the previous year. The figures point to deepening economic cooperation between Kabul and Tashkent.

Trade between the two countries has also surged compared to 2023, rising from $867.5 million to the current level—an increase of more than 84 percent over two years. The trend indicates accelerating economic interaction and growing Afghan reliance on Uzbek goods.
According to the report, 93.8 percent of bilateral trade consists of Uzbek exports to Afghanistan. In 2025, these exports were valued at $1.5 billion and included food products, energy supplies, and industrial goods—highlighting a trade balance overwhelmingly in Uzbekistan’s favor, with Afghanistan largely serving as a consumer market.
At the macro level, Uzbekistan recorded $81.2 billion in total foreign trade in 2025, conducting commerce with 210 countries worldwide. China remained Uzbekistan’s largest trading partner, accounting for 21.2 percent of total trade, followed by Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and South Korea.
Economic analysts say expanding Afghanistan’s cooperation with Central Asian countries—particularly Uzbekistan—could strengthen the country’s position in regional trade networks and open new pathways for diversifying Afghanistan’s foreign trade. If you want this shorter, more headline-driven, or adapted for an economic brief, I can adjust it quickly.
