Taliban Ban Food Imports Carried by Returnees from Pakistan

DID Press: The transfer of certain food items and medicines by returnees from Pakistan is prohibited and will be confiscated if detected, announced the Taliban authorities in Nangarhar.

Under a new directive, the Taliban have banned passengers entering Afghanistan from Pakistan from carrying specific food and medical items. Quraishi Badloon, head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Nangarhar, said returnees are not allowed to bring items such as honey, sugar, cooking oil, medicines, and fresh fruit into the country.

He said any such goods found at the Torkham Crossing will be seized. Badloon stressed that bringing these items into the country is illegal and will be treated as smuggling, urging returnees to refrain from carrying them to avoid potential problems.

Torkham is one of the main passenger and commercial transit routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the restriction is expected to affect the flow of returning migrants and cross-border movements.
