UNAMA Resident Coordinator’s Mission in Kabul Ends; Taliban Thank Ratawatte
DID Press: Taliban’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a farewell meeting with Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and UN Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan, expressed appreciation for his humanitarian efforts and emphasized the continuation of cooperation and coordination between UN agencies and local authorities.

The meeting was held today (Friday, February 20) in the presence of Georgette Gagnon, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and chief of its political section. The two sides discussed ongoing engagement between the Taliban and UN bodies, as well as the importance of maintaining coordination in humanitarian programs.
Amir Khan Muttaqi thanked Ratwatte for his efforts during his tenure as UN humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan and wished him success in his future responsibilities. Ratwatte, in turn, expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry and described his mission in Afghanistan as “rich in experience and positive memories.”
Indrika Ratwatte, appointed in 2023 as Deputy Special Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan, brings more than 30 years of experience in humanitarian operations in complex and crisis environments, including Afghanistan.
