Suicide Attack Kills 13 in North Waziristan

DIDPress: Today, Saturday, June 28, a suicide bombing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province once again highlighted the fragile security situation in Pakistan’s border areas.

This morning, a suicide attacker driving a vehicle loaded with explosives targeted a vehicle carrying personnel of the Pakistan Army’s bomb disposal unit in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The massive explosion killed 13 military personnel and injured 24 others.

According to security sources, among the injured, at least 14 are civilians who were near the site of the explosion at the time of the attack.

Following the attack, a state of emergency was declared in the area and martial law was imposed.

Pakistan Army and police forces quickly secured the scene and launched a wide-scale search operation in the region.

The extremist group “Aswad al-Harb”  in a statement claimed responsibility for this attack.

The group has carried out several limited attacks in the border areas in recent months, but today’s attack was their deadliest act.

The provincial Information Minister condemned the attack in a statement, saying: “Terrorists cannot shake the determination of the government and the people to restore security with such attacks.”
