DID Press: Retired US General Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. said that American military bases built across the Middle East over more than five decades have now effectively been “destroyed.”
McKenzie, the former commander of United States Central Command, noted that the United States had spent over half a century establishing and strengthening its regional military infrastructure. However, he said those facilities have now been lost.
He added that if the destruction of these bases had led to the collapse of the government in Iran, it might have been considered justifiable. According to McKenzie, however, “the world today is witnessing a different reality,” suggesting the outcome has diverged from earlier expectations.
