Top Muslim Scholar Issues Fatwa Urging Afghanistan–Pakistan Truce
DID Press: Prominent Islamic scholar Ali al-Qaradaghi, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, has issued a fatwa calling for an immediate halt to hostilities between Afghanistan and Pakistan during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement, Qaradaghi said warfare between Muslim countries contradicts Islamic teachings and stressed that protecting Muslim lives is a fundamental principle of Islam. He described halting the fighting during Ramadan as a “religious obligation” and urged the leaders of both countries to end the conflict before the final ten days of the holy month begin.
The head of the scholars’ union also suggested using a ceasefire as an opportunity to launch political dialogue after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. He added that countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey could help mediate efforts to reduce tensions and facilitate peace talks.
Qaradaghi further emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim nations, warning that internal conflicts could weaken the broader Islamic world.
Border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which began more than a week ago, have already left hundreds dead and wounded, including civilians.
