DID Press: Former US envoy for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad has called on Pakistan to urgently reduce tensions with Afghanistan and pursue dialogue with Kabul.

In a message posted on the social platform X, Khalilzad warned that continued escalation could have dangerous consequences for both countries. He noted that if Islamabad fails to ease tensions, Afghans may respond in ways that could deepen the crisis and increase suffering and losses on both sides.
Khalilzad also condemned recent cross-border strikes by Pakistani forces on Afghan territory, describing them as troubling developments that risk complicating security along the shared frontier.
His remarks come amid rising reports of clashes and attacks in border regions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, raising concerns about a potential escalation between the two neighbors. Analysts say diplomatic engagement and negotiations remain the most viable path to preventing further instability and maintaining relative regional stability.
