UN: Denying Women Access to UN Offices Violates Their Rights
DID Press: Experts from UN have stated that barring women from entering UN offices in Afghanistan constitutes “a direct attack on women’s rights,” particularly their right to work.

In an official statement, the UN emphasized that “there is no cultural, religious, or administrative justification” for this policy. Experts noted that the deployment of armed personnel at UN office entrances to prevent women from entering is “shocking.”
They also warned that the immediate and severe consequences of this ban are disrupting the delivery of essential services, especially in humanitarian sectors, disproportionately affecting women and girls.
The statement further described these actions as a “violation of international law” and expressed concern about their negative impact on Afghanistan’s future. UN experts called for a unified and principled response from the international community and for active UN bodies in Afghanistan to adopt a joint stance against these measures.
