UNHCR Official Opens “Regi Kalacha” School in Kandahar
DID Press: Arafat Jamal, representative of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), inaugurated the “Regi Kalacha” school in Kandahar, emphasizing support for education for both girls and boys.

The “Regi Kalacha” school is part of six newly built schools in Kandahar province, designed to enhance education access and support students, particularly girls.
The school was constructed with a total investment of $2.5 million funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The new facility will provide educational opportunities for nearly 8,000 students, including both girls and boys, contributing to broader access to education across Kandahar.
During the inauguration, Jamal stated that the project reflects the UN’s commitment to supporting education and child welfare in vulnerable regions, adding: “We strive to ensure learning opportunities for all children without discrimination.”
During his visit, Jamal also toured the Takht-e-Pul reception center to assess the situation of returning migrants and reaffirmed UNHCR support for returnees and vulnerable host communities.
He highlighted that international cooperation and global aid play a crucial role in creating educational opportunities and improving living conditions in various regions.
Local officials and civil society members welcomed the project, noting that the opening of these schools is a key step in advancing education, reducing deprivation, and increasing future employment opportunities for young generations.
