Lavrov Visits China for 2-Day Talks on Middle East, Ukraine

DID Press: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, beginning a two-day official visit to China, Russian media reported.

According to TASS, Lavrov is scheduled to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, with discussions expected to focus on the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, and future bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.

The agenda includes coordination on key international developments, with particular attention to recent tensions in the Middle East, including the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war.

The visit, made at the invitation of Wang Yi, will continue until April 15. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has previously indicated that the talks may also address preparations for high-level contacts, including a potential visit by President Vladimir Putin to China.

Analysts say escalating tensions in the Middle East and the prolonged war in Ukraine are increasing the importance of closer strategic coordination between Moscow and Beijing. The outcomes of the talks are expected to influence cooperation between the two countries in international forums, including the United Nations Security Council.
