10 Countries Urge Immediate Halt to Lebanon Fighting Amid Humanitarian Crisis Warning

DID Press: Ten countries have expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon, calling for an immediate end to hostilities in a joint statement.

The signatories — Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom — warned that continued escalation could significantly intensify the humanitarian catastrophe.

Citing reports of more than one million displaced people, high civilian casualties, and widespread destruction of critical infrastructure, the statement stressed that ongoing strikes by Israel risk deepening the crisis.

The countries also warned that continued violence is severely disrupting access to essential services, including water, electricity, healthcare, and humanitarian relief, further worsening conditions for displaced populations.

According to international reports, recent attacks on residential areas in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley have destroyed homes, schools, and medical facilities, forcing tens of thousands of families to flee. Aid agencies have also warned that restricted access to affected areas is increasing the risk of further civilian casualties.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has previously stated that repeated strikes on densely populated areas may constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and could have long-term consequences for regional stability.

The signatory states urged the international community to take urgent action to stop the violence, protect civilians, and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access.
