DID Press: China has urged de-escalation in Middle East while stressing that Iran’s legitimate sovereignty and security interests in the Strait of Hormuz must be respected, amid rising regional tensions.

In a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the current situation as a critical juncture between war and peace, while also noting an emerging “window for diplomacy.” He called for maintaining ceasefire arrangements and intensifying political dialogue to prevent further escalation.
Wang emphasized the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz as a vital global shipping route, underscoring that freedom of navigation and maritime security must be guaranteed for all parties.
He also reiterated China’s readiness to support regional stability through its four-point initiative, which promotes political dialogue over confrontation, supports ceasefires, respects sovereignty and territorial integrity, and encourages broader regional cooperation for long-term peace.
