CSTO Meeting in Bishkek Emphasizes Stability and Development of Afghanistan

DID Press: During a meeting between CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring stability and development in Afghanistan as a peaceful and stable country.

The meeting, held on April 15, 2026, in Bishkek, focused on regional security conditions and key issues in international politics. The two sides also referred to commitments by Kabul authorities to address existing security threats and reported progress in strengthening security along the Tajikistan–Afghanistan border.

Masadykov stated that a targeted interstate program by the Collective Security Treaty Organization is currently being implemented to reinforce the border, with practical steps already underway.

He also highlighted the expansion of the organization’s analytical activities and announced an international scientific conference scheduled for April 27 in Moscow.

In addition to Afghanistan-related discussions, both sides stressed the importance of peace in the Middle East and expressed hope that Iran–US negotiations would produce positive outcomes.

The CSTO Secretary General also noted preparations for upcoming meetings and large-scale joint military exercises in the second half of the year under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation.

For his part, President Sadyr Japarov presented proposals and expressed Kyrgyzstan’s readiness to enhance comprehensive cooperation within the CSTO framework.
