Iran: Control of the Strait of Hormuz Has Returned to Previous Status

DID Press: Iran announced that control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous status, with the waterway remaining under strict management and monitoring by the country’s armed forces.

Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said the Islamic Republic had previously allowed limited and managed passage of certain oil tankers and commercial vessels through the strait in line with earlier agreements and as a gesture of goodwill.

However, he claimed that what he described as “continued actions by the United States,” including restrictions on ships linked to Iran, constituted maritime piracy and violations of commitments, prompting Tehran to restore full control measures to their prior level.

Zolfaghari stressed that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain in place as long as US restrictions on vessels associated with Iran are not fully lifted, adding that strict oversight of maritime traffic will continue.
