NYT Report: Iran Retains Significant Portion of Military Capability

DID Press: The New York Times, citing US intelligence officials, reports that Iran has retained a substantial portion of its military capabilities and is actively working to rebuild assets lost during recent conflicts.

According to the report, Iran still possesses roughly 40% of its attack drones, nearly 60% of its missile launchers, and possibly up to 70% of its missile stockpiles, suggesting that its military structure has not been fully degraded despite ongoing hostilities.

The report adds that at the time of the ceasefire on 8 April, Iran had preserved about half of its ballistic missile launchers. Since then, it has reportedly brought around 100 additional launchers out of underground facilities and redeployed them, bringing current operational capacity to approximately 60% of pre-war levels.

U.S. intelligence officials further stated that Iran is replenishing buried missile reserves, a process that—if continued—could restore its total missile arsenal to around 70% of its pre-war capacity.

The findings come amid continued debate in policy and security circles over Iran’s military resilience and its implications for the regional balance of power.
