Brazil Calls on US to End Cuba Blockade

DID Press: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva urged US to end its long-standing blockade on Cuba, calling for respect for the country’s sovereignty and the right of its people to self-determination.

Lula da Silva stated that it is time for Washington to recognize Cuba’s independent political choices and said: “End this damn blockade on Cuba and let the people live their lives.”

He also called on the international community to pay greater attention to the humanitarian crisis in Haiti, noting that its population is facing severe hunger while still deserving dignity and respect.

The Brazilian president criticized global indifference toward Haiti’s worsening conditions, warning that the world should not remain silent in the face of the crisis.

Brazil, Mexico, and Spain had previously issued a joint statement urging an end to the blockade on Cuba, reinforcing growing international calls for policy change.
