Mohaqiq: Durand Line Is Afghanistan’s Official Border
DID Press: Afghan political figure Mohammad Mohaqiq, head of the Islamic Unity Party of the People of Afghanistan and member of the High Council of Resistance, has stated that he recognizes the Durand Line as the official border between Afghanistan and Pakistan and accepts the United Nations’ internationally defined political map.

In a recent interview with a private television channel, Mohaqiq said he considers the Durand Line the formal boundary between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and that he adheres to the United Nations’ geopolitical classification.
He noted that one of the main sources of tension between the Taliban and Pakistan is the disputed border issue. Mohaqiq claimed that the Taliban consider a significant portion of territory on the other side of the line to belong to Afghanistan. He added that he accepts the current UN map of Afghanistan as valid.
Referring to the 1893 agreement between Amir Abdul Rahman Khan and British India, he said that although historical debates exist, the international community and the United Nations recognize the line as the official border. He also warned that territorial claims must be weighed against Pakistan’s status as a nuclear power.
Mohaqiq further recalled that in a past meeting with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, he had advised that rejecting the Durand Line was not in Afghanistan’s interest, using a metaphor comparing territorial claims to gradual escalation.
The remarks come amid continued tension between Kabul and Islamabad, with Pakistan repeatedly urging the Taliban government to formally recognize the border, while the Taliban maintain their traditional position of non-recognition.
