Trial of Kabul Airport Attack Suspect Begins in US
DID Press: The trial of Sharifullah, accused of involvement in the deadly attack carried out by Islamic State – Khorasan Province at Hamid Karzai International Airport in September 2021, began Monday in the US state of Virginia.

The attack occurred during the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan and is widely considered one of the deadliest incidents of that period, resulting in heavy casualties.
Defense attorney Jeremy Kamens told the court at the opening of proceedings that the United States had arrested “the wrong person,” arguing that the evidence presented so far is insufficient to prove his client’s involvement.
Kamens also claimed that the airport attack may have involved cooperation from elements linked to the Taliban, an allegation that could introduce new dimensions to the case.
So far, U.S. officials have not publicly responded to this claim, and the trial is expected to continue with the examination of evidence and witness testimony.
