Russia Warns of Deepening Rift Among UNSC Permanent Members

DID Press: Russia Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that relations among the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council have sharply deteriorated, raising concerns over growing strategic risks to global stability.

Russian representative Andrey Belousov said tensions have escalated due to what Moscow describes as “destructive actions by the West,” affecting relations among the council’s veto-holding nuclear powers.

He stressed that these states carry a special responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, warning that the current trajectory could increase the risk of direct military confrontation with potentially catastrophic global consequences.

Belousov also referred to the ongoing war in Ukraine, stating that several European countries continue what Moscow calls “hostile policies” toward Russia by supporting Kyiv and maintaining confrontational rhetoric.

He further warned that continued escalation and lack of diplomatic engagement could deepen the crisis, reiterating Moscow’s call for a return to constructive international dialogue.
