AWS Persian Gulf Cloud Recovery to Take Months After Major Disruption

DID Press: Amazon Web Services says restoring damaged cloud infrastructure in the Persian Gulf region will take several months following major disruptions affecting data centers in United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

The company confirmed that 37 core services were taken offline and more than 12,000 enterprise and government clients across the region are facing operational disruptions.

Preliminary estimates place direct hardware damage at around $850 million, with over 40% of storage capacity in affected facilities requiring physical recovery. AWS has allocated $1.2 billion for emergency restoration efforts and rerouted part of its traffic to neighboring regions.

Despite mitigation measures, technical assessments indicate that full recovery is unlikely within three months due to the scale of destruction, marking one of the most severe infrastructure outages in the region in recent years.
