31 Activists Injured in Attack on Gaza Aid Flotilla in Mediterranean

DID Press: Mediterranean Sea — Thirty-one human rights activists aboard a humanitarian aid flotilla bound for Gaza were injured following an incident in international waters, according to the organizers.

The “Global Sumud Flotilla” said the group was traveling to deliver humanitarian assistance and attempt to break the blockade on Gaza when the incident occurred.

The statement noted that the injured participants include citizens from New Zealand, Australia, Italy, United States, Canada, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, Colombia, and Germany, among others.

Organizers also claimed that some detained activists were held aboard a military vessel for around 40 hours, during which they reportedly faced restricted access to food and water.

The incident comes amid continued international efforts by aid flotillas in recent months to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza.
