Taliban Reshuffles Security Leadership Across 3 Afghanistan Provinces

DID Press: Taliban leadership has announced a fresh reshuffle of senior security and military officials across Kabul, Ghazni and Herat, in a move seen as part of ongoing efforts to tighten internal control over Afghanistan’s security structure.

According to a decree issued by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada and released by spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, several key officials have been reassigned to new positions.

Under the new appointments, Wali Hamza, the Taliban’s police commander in Kabul, has been removed from his post and appointed governor of Ghazni, a strategically important province facing persistent security challenges.

At the same time, Abdul Samad Javid, the Taliban governor of Ghazni, has been transferred to Kabul to serve as the capital’s new police commander.

In western Afghanistan, Naqibullah, previously chief of staff of the Taliban’s 205 Al-Badr Corps, has been appointed police commander of Herat, while former Herat police chief Sabr Gul Yaser has been assigned as chief of staff of the same military corps.

The latest reshuffle reflects the Taliban’s continued reliance on internal power rotations among loyal members of the group, with few outsiders included in the governing or security apparatus since their return to power in 2021.

Recent assessments by research organizations also indicate that the Taliban leadership structure remains entirely male-dominated, with women excluded from cabinet and senior security positions.
