Ben-Gvir Faces Global Backlash Over Treatment of Sumud Activists

DID Press: International criticism is mounting after a video released by Itamar Ben-Gvir appeared to show the Israeli minister behaving aggressively and disrespectfully toward activists from the “Global Sumud Convoy.”

The footage shows dozens of civilian activists kneeling in rows at an Israeli port with their hands tied behind their backs. Ben-Gvir was seen confronting several detainees in what critics described as humiliating and violent conduct.

The incident has triggered strong diplomatic reactions from multiple countries.

Governments including France, Canada, Spain, Portugal and Netherlands announced plans to summon Israeli ambassadors to seek explanations over the incident.

Other countries, including Turkey, Qatar, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom, South Korea and Belgium, also condemned the incident and voiced diplomatic concern.

In one part of the video, Ben-Gvir is seen pushing an activist to the ground while the activist chants “Freedom for Palestine.”
