Pentagon Restricts Press Access to Press Office
DID Press: US Department of War has barred journalists from entering its press office at the Pentagon, citing a reclassification of the facility as a “sensitive classified information site.”

The move, announced by the department, prevents reporters from accessing the office area where speechwriters and communications staff work with classified material. Officials said these personnel have access to secure networks, including SIPRNet.
A Pentagon spokesperson, Joel Valdez, stated that the restriction is part of an internal security redesign aimed at protecting sensitive information environments.
Under the new rules, journalists will no longer be allowed entry to the press office area, although access to other media-related offices may still be granted by appointment.
The decision follows a series of recent measures tightening media access inside the Pentagon, including the removal of permanent press spaces and increased screening procedures for reporters.
Critics say the move further limits transparency and reduces public oversight of military institutions, while supporters argue it is a necessary step to safeguard classified information.
