Qatar Reaffirms Mediation Efforts on Afghanistan at UN
DID Press: Qatar has reiterated its commitment to mediation, dialogue, and preventive diplomacy to peacefully resolve conflicts and reduce regional and international tensions, including the situation in Afghanistan.

Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani told a United Nations General Assembly session on strengthening mediation in conflict prevention and resolution that Doha continues to rely on diplomatic tools to promote peace and stability in various regions.
She noted that the growing number and complexity of global crises highlight mediation as one of the most effective tools for preventing conflicts and achieving sustainable peace, adding that the world is currently facing the highest number of armed conflicts since the founding of the United Nations.
The Qatari envoy highlighted her country’s involvement in several mediation efforts, including Gaza, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Afghanistan, stating that Doha’s diplomatic role helped facilitate the 2020 agreement between the United States and the Taliban in Doha.
She also expressed support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran and reaffirmed Qatar’s backing for initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening regional stability.
Qatar has increasingly positioned itself in recent years as a key diplomatic mediator in regional and international conflicts.
