Afghanistan Shiite Council Calls for Security of Ashura Commemorations

DID Press: The Shiite Ulema Council of Afghanistan has called for the safe, orderly, and unity-focused observance of Ashura ceremonies as the Islamic month of Muharram approaches, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious gatherings.

In a statement issued ahead of Muharram, the council offered condolences for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions, describing the Karbala uprising as a lasting model of dignity, freedom, justice, and resistance against oppression and corruption.

The council said the sacrifice of Imam Hussein (AS) is not merely a historical event but a timeless source of inspiration for oppressed communities and freedom-seekers worldwide.

It also urged religious leaders, organizers, and participants to hold mourning ceremonies with both emotional devotion and intellectual awareness, while avoiding any divisive rhetoric that could undermine Muslim unity.
