Shehbaz Sharif: Stable Afghanistan Key to Dignified Refugee Return

DID Press: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the dignified return and resettlement of millions of Afghan refugees depend on the establishment of a stable and economically resilient Afghanistan.

In a message marking World Refugee Day, Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s long-standing hosting of Afghan refugees is a sustained humanitarian commitment rather than a temporary policy.

He noted that following the developments of 1979, millions of Afghans entered Pakistan to escape insecurity, and despite limited resources, the country provided camps and settlement areas for successive generations of Afghan families.

Sharif reiterated that Pakistan remains one of the world’s largest host countries for refugees and stressed that continued support for displaced populations requires international cooperation alongside long-term stability inside Afghanistan.

He added that sustainable solutions to refugee issues can only be achieved through coordinated global efforts and the creation of stable conditions that allow safe and voluntary return.
