Taliban Orders Rollback of Internet and Call Price Hikes

DID Press: Taliban-run Ministry of Communications has instructed all telecommunications operators in Afghanistan to restore internet package and voice call prices to their previous rates following public criticism over recent increases.

In a statement, the ministry said the rise in internet and telecommunications tariffs had been reviewed and operators were given a short deadline to reverse the new pricing structure.

The decision follows widespread complaints from consumers who reported higher costs for internet services and phone calls in recent days. Many users called for a return to previous tariffs, arguing that the increases placed an additional burden on households and businesses.

Public dissatisfaction also fueled several online campaigns and social media protests, with users urging authorities to intervene and prevent further price increases.

The ministry emphasized that telecommunications companies are required to comply with officially approved tariff regulations and warned that operators failing to implement the directive could face legal action.

The move is expected to affect major telecommunications providers operating across Afghanistan and may provide temporary relief to millions of mobile and internet users.
