Taliban Renames Traffic Police as ‘Shurta of Traffic and Transit’

DID Press: Taliban-led Ministry of Interior has officially replaced the term “Traffic Police” with “Shurta of Traffic and Transit” following a directive reportedly issued by the group’s supreme leader.

In a recent public notice, the ministry used the new designation instead of the previously recognized term “Traffic Police,” marking another change in official terminology under the Taliban administration.

According to the notice, the renaming is part of a broader effort to replace certain administrative terms with words derived from Arabic and Islamic traditions.

The same announcement also imposed restrictions on the movement of tractors, rickshaws, and other vehicles lacking proper lighting equipment on highways, particularly during nighttime hours.

Taliban authorities have not yet provided a detailed official explanation regarding the rationale behind the terminology change.
