Asif Durrani Warns Kabul and New Delhi Over Proxy Groups

DID Press: Former Pakistan Special Envoy for Afghanistan Asif Durrani has accused the Taliban authorities and the Indian government of supporting armed groups, warning that continued policies could have serious regional consequences.

Durrani said the Taliban must understand they lack significant international legitimacy and warned that by providing safe havens to groups such as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), ISIS-Khorasan, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, and other organizations, they risk repeating conditions similar to those preceding the September 11 attacks.

He further alleged that India is financially supporting TTP and the Baloch Liberation Army, while the Taliban are providing shelter and protection to such groups.

The former envoy stressed that if these policies continue, both Kabul and India’s Hindutva leadership in New Delhi could be “playing with fire.”

He added that historical experience shows support for proxy groups ultimately threatens the security of those who back them.
