Pakistan Hosts OIC Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment

DID Press: Pakistan is hosting the ninth Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Women today (Sunday), bringing together representatives from the bloc’s 57 member states to discuss strategies for advancing women’s economic, social, and political empowerment.

The two-day conference is being held under the theme “Women’s Economic, Social and Political Empowerment in OIC Member States: Challenges and Opportunities.”

The meeting is chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and is attended by ministers, senior government officials, and representatives of international organizations to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation on women’s empowerment across OIC member states.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, welcomed the participating delegations and emphasized the importance of closer cooperation among Islamic countries to promote women’s empowerment.

The conference comes as the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Global Gender Gap Report ranked Pakistan last among 148 countries, with a gender parity score of 56.7%, drawing renewed attention to the country’s ongoing challenges in achieving gender equality.
