DID Press: Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s acting interior minister, met families of victims of a recent Pakistani military strike in Samkani district of Paktia province, expressing condolences and reaffirming support for those affected.

According to a statement issued by the Taliban’s Interior Ministry, Haqqani visited Paktia and held talks with the relatives of those killed in the recent cross-border attack. Family members told the delegation that all of the victims were civilians, including women and children. (Taliban Interior Ministry)

The visit comes amid heightened tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, with relations strained in recent months by cross-border military incidents and mutual accusations over the presence and activities of militant groups operating along the frontier.

Analysts say continued cross-border strikes and civilian casualties risk further escalating political and security tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They add that unresolved security disputes and reciprocal allegations remain among the most significant challenges facing bilateral relations.
