DID Press: Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov has claimed that the United States does not have the ability to achieve victory in a potential war with Iran, citing Washington’s previous military experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pushkov, chairman of the Federation Council’s Commission on Information Policy, wrote on his Telegram channel that US President Donald Trump had described the United States as being in a state of war with Iran in a letter to Congress.
The Russian lawmaker claimed that Trump is seeking another military victory in the Middle East, but said previous US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan demonstrated that Washington failed to achieve its strategic objectives in prolonged conflicts.
Pushkov argued that a war with Iran would be significantly more complex due to the country’s military capabilities, geographic size, and strategic resources compared with previous US interventions in the region.
He further warned that any escalation between Washington and Tehran could have wide-ranging consequences for security and stability in the Middle East, while imposing heavy political, economic, and military costs on the United States.
The Russian senator concluded that the past two decades have shown that starting a war is easier than ending it, and that expectations of a quick victory over Iran do not match realities on the ground.
