EU Urges World Not to Forget Afghanistan

DID Press: European Union has welcomed the appointment of Rabab Fatima as the UN Secretary-General’s new Special Representative for Afghanistan, pledging to work closely with her while urging the international community not to lose focus on the country’s ongoing challenges.

In a statement, the European Union welcomed the appointment of Rabab Fatima as the new UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, saying it stands ready to cooperate with her in Kabul, at international forums, and through the Doha Process.

An EU spokesperson stressed that Afghanistan continues to require sustained international attention and warned against allowing the country to fade from the global agenda amid competing international crises.

The European Union has repeatedly expressed concern in recent months over Afghanistan’s humanitarian, economic, and security challenges, emphasizing the need for continued engagement between the international community, multilateral institutions, and regional stakeholders to address the country’s evolving situation.
