DID Press: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on border security, with a renewed focus on combating terrorism, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and irregular migration.
The agreement was reached during talks in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The two sides agreed to develop a joint strategy to address terrorism and narcotics trafficking along the Afghanistan–Pakistan–Iran border region.
Naqvi said Pakistan is prepared to expand cooperation with Iran across multiple sectors. He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in support of regional peace initiatives.
The ministers also discussed strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade, improving border coordination, and deepening economic cooperation.
In a separate meeting, Pakistan’s Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi and Momeni reviewed progress on joint railway projects, including the Zahedan–Taftan railway, the ML-3 project, and the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul freight train corridor.
