DID Press: A group of US lawmakers from both Democratic and Republican parties have warned about the potential consequences of a proposed nuclear cooperation agreement between Washington and Riyadh, raising concerns over nuclear proliferation risks in the Middle East.

According to Politico, the agreement could allow Saudi Arabia to pursue uranium enrichment capabilities over a 10-year period, potentially encouraging other regional powers, including Turkey and Egypt, to seek similar arrangements.
The lawmakers warned that such developments could challenge Washington’s long-standing policy of preventing the spread of nuclear technology with military potential.
They also cautioned that implementing the agreement amid ongoing tensions and confrontation between the United States and Iran could intensify a regional nuclear competition and increase security risks across the Middle East.
