Pakistan PM Urges Taliban to Prevent Cross-Border Militant Attacks

DID Press: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has renewed his call on the Taliban to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan, while stressing the importance of maintaining good relations between the two neighboring countries.

Speaking at the Balochistan National Conference in Islamabad, Sharif said Pakistan shares a long border with Afghanistan and expects the Taliban to ensure that Afghan territory is not used for terrorist activities targeting Pakistan.

He noted that Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Taliban in recent months of providing sanctuary to members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups. The Taliban have denied the allegations, insisting they do not allow Afghan territory to be used for attacks against any country.

Sharif said more than 90,000 Pakistani civilians and security personnel have been killed in the country’s fight against terrorism.He also referred to a recent attack in Mastung that killed a judge and his security guard, saying Pakistan’s security forces have paid a heavy price in efforts to maintain national security.
